"Crystalize"
This is my favorite water glass. It is exactly like every other water glass of its make. Completely identical, save for a small scratch near the base. The perception that some mundane item is unique among hundreds of replicas is a powerful notion. It makes the experience of drinking out of this glass entirely different, even though it is entirely the same as all of its companions.
"Mezzotint"
This is my dish rag from my job. Incredibly easy to overlook; these things go missing all the time. However, when it's busy and I can't find one, it might as well be a bar of gold. The rag exemplifies the concept of situational value.
"Mosaic"
Fake flowers. I hate fake flowers. I think it speaks to some great truth that for something to remain beautiful forever, it has to be made of plastic. I think genuine beauty is perishable, inherently temporary. True beauty is random and fleeting, which brings so much more value to the moments in which one experiences it. I swapped the colors because I think the flowers would be prettier if they were blue, anyway.
"Color Halftone"
My family wasn't always a horse family. We used to all be into martial arts. But when my sister became old enough to discover her own passions, she took to horseback riding. Ever since then, it's been meets and competitions every weekend. She wants to go to the Olympics with it. This is a tribute to my sister's passion, that greatly trumps all of mine. She inspires me to be more motivated in pursuit of my dreams.
"Pointillize"
I didn't like these pictures at first, but immediately after I took them, I dropped this entire rack of wine glasses and severely lacerated my hand. This is the last image that exists of these glasses intact. This picture is a preservation; an homage to the temporary. If it were to fade away, then so would these particular glasses. It's a testament to the nature of photography, which is a physical manifestation of memory.
